Where Generations Learn to Ride

Funk

It is absolutely heartbreaking to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Funk. He was truly a one of a kind horse, and not just because of his spots. Funk was a horse that you could trust to take care of any rider, whether it was a beginner stepping into the saddle for the very first time or an advanced rider learning to nail their transitions and canter polework (and just about everything else in between!) Funk's patience and gentleness with his riders is what made him truly special and worth his weight in gold.

Though Funk did enjoy showing off his best steamroller impression from time to time, burying his nose low and taking you for a ride to keep you on your toes, there was not a bad bone in his body. He was incredibly smart, knowing just which riders could take a little pushing and which ones needed a gentler ride. His carefree, go with the flow attitude is not something you come across in every horse, we are beyond lucky to have had the opportunity to love him and share him with our students, visitors, and friends. A master of all trades, Funk could be found just about anywhere on any given day, in the pasture greeting visitors who are enamored by his coat pattern, exploring on the trail, enjoying the sunshine during a lesson in the outdoor arena, or letting a rider find their balance riding bareback in the indoor.

Funk left us this morning surrounded by his best friends, eating as many treats as his heart desired, and watching the sun rise as he joined his friends in the big pasture in the sky. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for loving Funk as much as we did and for helping us give a special horse the best life here at WPS. If you have any favorite memories or photos of Funk, we welcome you to share them by email or on our Facebook page. You will be missed, Funk!

Looking forward to our Future

Our future to stay within this community was on shaky ground. We are in a much better place (as of November 2023) than we were two years ago. Updates to come.
Thank you to all who testified on our behalf at the May 19, 2022, hearing and for the letters sent in! Your overwhelming support is so awe-inspiring! We plan to stay here for you and for future generations to enjoy!
